Settled In

I am feeling pretty settled in here. I have met everyone in the program and started all of my classes. I think the best update will be to just show some pictures of what I have been up to since I've gotten here. I will have to fill in the holes as I collect some pictures from my house mates and such.

So Jeff is from Vermont and his birthday was just last Friday so our house made him a cake. I made the frosting and decorated it. So we went out to the community hot spot: Keweenaw Brewing Company and then invited Jeff and his house mates back over for a surprise birthday party!

He seemed pleased! :-D

This photo shows L to R: Kaitlin (house mate), Gwyn (house mate), Nick (hidden), Fletcher (house mate), and Jenny (JEff's GF from Univ. Rhode Island).

So Gwyn has this crazy cowboy hat, she is from Arizona after all, and Kaitlin decided to model it with her new trench from the Salvation Army (pure class). LOL

Pictures from the Quincy Mine Tour.

These towers used to guide the cables from the steam hoist. They would lift people and mined rock from over a mile under the earth.

This is the brick building where the steam hoist (largest in the world is housed).

Jeff in Kaitlin in their hard hats!

The cable use to lift men and rocks out of the mine.

The giant drum that the cable wrapped around.

Some of us MIer's in our mine gear. L to R: Steve, Kaitlin, me, Fletcher, Jeff.

We road a cog rail down the steep slope to the mine entrance. You could see the Houghton-Hancock Bridge and our house in the distance.

Kaitlin checking out the view back up the hill.

I'll Post more pictures and as they become available.
